If you’ve been reading for a while, you know this isn’t exactly unusual. I’ve moved this blog more times than I can count. For about the last year, it’s been hosted on [Micro.blog](https://micro.blog/?ref=ryangrier.blog). Micro.blog is a great micro blogging and social site. [Manton](https://www.manton.org/?ref=ryangrier.blog) and his team have done an excellent job here. I’ve also had my social and (longer form) blog posts integrated together. My Micro.blog setup has been creating a little more mental overhead than I want. I found myself wanting a space dedicated solely to longer-form writing, so I decided to split up the blog and microblog. ## Why Ghost? I’ve been running and maintaining a blog since about 2001\. That’s a long time. My first ‘blog’ was just some HTML pages that I manually updated. I’ve used a variety of blogging platforms over the years, including [Movable Type](https://movabletype.org/?ref=ryangrier.blog), [WordPress](https://wordpress.org/?ref=ryangrier.blog), [Tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/?ref=ryangrier.blog), [Jekyll](https://jekyllrb.com/?ref=ryangrier.blog), [Micro.blog](https://micro.blog/?ref=ryangrier.blog), and now [Ghost](https://ghost.org/?ref=ryangrier.blog). For years, I have been cross-posting some of my blog posts to [Medium](https://medium.com/?ref=ryangrier.blog). I still think Medium has one of the best writing editors available anywhere. I thought about hosting on Medium, but I ultimately decided against it. I’ve settled on Ghost. I’ve used Ghost in the past. They have a very similar (if not identical) post editor. When I used Ghost in the past, I used [DigitalPress](https://www.digitalpress.blog/?ref=ryangrier.blog) for hosting. I considered going back, but decided to try something new. This time I’m hosting with [MagicPages](https://www.magicpages.co/?ref=ryangrier.blog). I have nothing against DigitalPress, but wanted to try somewhere new. I’ve been very happy with the setup so far. ## Seeded the site In order to prevent the site from being empty when I started, I seeded the blog with a few entries. I didn’t bring everything over. Looking over the archives, many of my older posts aren’t worth republishing. But I’ve added a few here. This post is the first new bit of content being posted to the site. ## What about Social? I’m going to stick with micro.blog for social posts. Like I said before, I am very happy with micro.blog. The support is excellent and I enjoy supporting an indie developer. My Micro.blog posts are still cross-posted to [Bluesky](https://bsky.app/profile/rwgrier.bsky.social?ref=ryangrier.blog) and [Mastodon](https://mastodon.social/@rwgrier?ref=ryangrier.blog), and that isn’t changing. If I’ve set things up correctly, the blog posts from Ghost will also be posted to the micro.blog site. As a bit of an aside, I consume my Bluesky, micro.blog, and Mastodon feeds through [IconFactory](https://iconfactory.com/?ref=ryangrier.blog)’s [Tapestry](https://usetapestry.com/?ref=ryangrier.blog) app. I find it the perfect way to consume all of this content in one place. ## Pruning old posts One thing I’ve done quite a lot over the years is delete older posts. I’m going to continue that on both this blog and micro.blog. I also have Mastodon set up to automatically delete posts that are older than six months. I love this feature; I wish more sites had it. I do keep a record of these older posts. I have most of them saved onto my computer (in my notes app) in case I ever want to come back to them (or populate a new blog). ## Do I need to update my RSS Feed? Yep. Probably. I am not going to try very hard to point the old RSS URLs to the new spot. I’ve never been good about this, and I’m not going to start now. Sorry.
